Reading commodork and remembering times that past

Image
So I picked up this book on kindle called Commodork: Sordid Tales From A Bbs Junkie  by Rob O'Hara (Author) and it really started bring back alot of memories of when I got my first computer. It was a Commodore vic-20 , I loved this machine. So when I was growing up we didn't have alot of money. So not knowing it then, but finding out later my mom spent almost a whole paycheck do get me this computer. I still remember that Christmas opening it up. It was so amazing. I also got a couple games at the time one was a Scot Adams adventure game. Man I loved those, I also remember at the time cassette recorders for a computer were pretty expensive. So everyday i would type in a basic game from one of the magizines I had just to play it. They were some fun times. This book is def one to check out.

Humble Bundle

So I usually get alot from Humble Bundle. I also subscribe to the monthly bundle which is pretty nice. This week's comics are GiJoe and transformers. Really good picks and I haven't had a chance to pick these up and read so I def had to get this. You should def pick this one up. https://www.humblebundle.com/books/transformers-vs-gi-joe-comics

New Retro Tech August 21, 2017

Image
So in the mail today I received my 32mb upgrade ram for my NEC MobilePro 750C. This was very simple to install and worked right away. Taking me from 16mg to 32mg. Next I received a Panasonic 8x pcmcia from drive. This thing is cool. I always wanted one but they were way to high in price back then. I got this for really, really cheap. One thing about this unit is that it runs on AA batteries or the included wallwort or you can get a rechargeable battery pack. Another awesome feature is that it has it's own speakers in stereo which is nice. I placed in a audio CD and it played just fine. I then tried to use it on my MobilePro but the included drivers do not support windows ce. It does support DOS so I might play around in DOS on the machine and see if I can get it working. If so I'll post a howto later on. This is def what I expected and work fine. I might have to look out for a old cheap or free windows 95 laptop with pcmcia to try on that. Pretty awesome t

Making NFC tags for Nintendo Amibo

Image
So I love the Nintendo Amiibos and how they work. One problem I have with them is some are hard to get or are being sold for ridiculous prices on ebay. So I was thinking all they use is NFC tags. My phone can accept and write NFC. Why cant I just copy and make my own. Well I found out by doing some investigating on the wonderful web that  you can copy and write your own clones. So I got in these today. Will update on the process it takes to write your own NFC tags. So These are the tags I got to clone the Amiibo code. If your looking to get some already programmed let me know and we can work out a price. the whole set of amiibos is around 700 so would take sometime to program them.

NEC MobilePro 750C Rom 3.0 Upgrade

Image
So I received my  NEC MobilePro 750C Rom 3.0 Upgrade which I got off ebay for $12.00 . It was pretty straight forward and all I had to do was open the port cover with the provided screw driver and pop in the chip and that's it. Turned it on and the OS was updated to 3.0 . I do notice a huge difference in speed. Next I have on order a new ram memory chip the unit has 16 and I got a 32 to put in.  From the pictures you can see that this was a brand new out of the box install.

New Retro Tech Pickups

So I ended up picking up a Compaq Presario SR2002X off craigslist for $15.00 . I have to say that this is the cleanest retro tech Ive seen ever. The guy that sold it only used it a couple times just doing spreadsheets and then it just sat unplugged for years. One thing that I really wanted that this machine has is a Compact Flash I/II port on it. Since my older machine use these this was a must. Also I order a pci serial card so I will have that added to it. I installed a 1tb harddrive and 3G of Memory to the unit loaded XP and this thing is running awesome. I found all the drivers for this computer so I have a link it here  COMPAQ PRESARIO SR 2000 drivers . COMPAQ PRESARIO SR 2000 drivers

New Retro Stuff

So I ordered some new retro tech today and cant wait for it to come in. One thing I got was a new 3.0 rom for my NEC MobilePro. Will post pics and a new posting once I recieve that and what it takes to install it. Also ordered a new serial to usb cable for the unit. I also found a really good condition HP computer on craigslist.

NEC MobilePro 750C

So I ended up finding out that the cable I got with the system was actually a vga cable. So I will have to find a serial cable for the unit. Also today I was able to get a new rom for it. So I will post when I receive that and some pics of the install process.

NEC MobilePro 750C

So I just got a NEC MobilePro 750C. Always wanted one of these computers back in the day. Most older tech is pretty cheap now a days and I got this for around $6.00 . It boots up fine to Windows CE 2.0 , and as far as I can tell its has all the important cables and power cord. It came with 2 batteries and they both seem to hold a charge pretty well. I seen online that they also have a battery casing so that you can use AA batteries, Ill have to see if I can get one of those for cheap. So Now the hard part. How do I connect this to today's tech and how do I get this onto the internet. Those are things i'm going to have to figure out. Below is other pics that iv'e taken of the unit and all its ports and also thne link cable that I recieved with the unit. I tried connecting this to a usb to RJ232 but the connector on the cable has a'lot more pins. I do see that it has IR but my new laptop I have doesnt support IR so will have to look into this further. If  you hav

Welcome to my new blog site

So I've decided I'm going to try to keep a ongoing blog. So I was thinking what would I put in this blog? What did I decide? Well the one thing I love is tech . So I've decided to start blogging about tech things, my hobbies and things I might find from day to day. Also would like to see what older tech I can use to update the blog from. So right know I'm using my tablet. I have a Samsung tab 2s which I've had forever. It's been a really good machine so far. I've lately picked up some older tech from thrift shops that I will blog about in the future so until then.
